Applying for a Workshop
Each semester, the Center will send out a request for proposals to be offered the following semester. A workshop proposal should contain the following information:
- the title of the seminar
- the name of each instructor
- also each instructor’s unit, program, email address, web site URL, phone number
- each instructor must be an Affiliate of the Center
- a one page description of what the seminar will cover, including:
- research area
- an explanation of why this area is of interdisciplinary interest in mind, brain, and culture
- a description of the relevant explanatory perspectives to be included
- a description of faculty, post docs, and graduate students likely to attend, and why they would be interested in this topic from an inter-disciplinary perspective
- a list of specific topics likely to be covered
- a list of references for work likely to be covered
- a list of external speakers to be invited
- a budget for the expenses associated with bringing the external speakers to campus, including travel, lodging, meals, and a modest honorarium
- a description of potential collaborative research projects that could follow, and the implications for future external funding
Please note the following:
- typically the Center will grant $3,000 to $5,000 total for a workshop
- at the current time, the Center can only support expenses associated with bringing in external speakers, not with any other aspects of a workshop
The Center will typically use the following criteria for selecting workshops to be funded:
- the research area is of high interest in multiple disciplines
- there are sufficiently many faculty and students interested who are willing to attend the workshop and help run it
- the workshop is novel, not covering a research area of a recent workshop or course
